What you'll do

Stay in Unique house boat accommodation,The Wild Cat Island, named after the schooner used by Captain Flint, just a 5 minute walk from your private parking space, located on the main river, which sleeps 4 people with the comfort of the gentle tide beneath.
* from price is for 2 nights

As you walk onto the Wild Cat Island, you enter straight onto the floating veranda, and this is a great place to sit and watch the river life, with a wonderful view up to Beccles old bridge and across to Beccles quay. A door opens onto the living room where you find a sofa, a small smart flatscreen TV, a table and here you can on the sofa and enjoy the view from indoors when the weather is a little chillier. The kitchen area is well equipped with a two ring electric hob, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. There are 2 bedrooms on board. The first has a double bed, while the second is a twin bedroom room with 2 single rooms, and both offer great views of the river where those staying can watch boats gently drift along throughout the day. There is also a bathroom complete with a basin, WC, and a shower.

Whilst taking time out, you can put your feet up and use the service provided by Beccles Station cafe, to order an arrival hamper, a picnic for a day out, or even have your breakfast delivered to you while you are on holiday.

This quirky and comfortable accommodation is the winner of several tourism awards and when you stay here, you will realise why!

The boathouse is on a working yard and as well as the pleasant comings and goings of the local wildlife, there are also boats coming and going, so there is a real buzz about the place.

For those who want to get out and about and explore then there are canoes and kayaks in order to do that via the river. Guests who want to try canoeing or kayaking can always take a guided tour and learn new skills as well as find out about the local area. If you want to try something totally different the pedal boat for two is a wonderful way to see the wildlife. Private Fishing is permitted off the houseboats and around the yard.

Location

The Wild Cat boathouse is located on the River Waveney, by the town of Beccles in Suffolk.

It is very accessible by both train and car with shops around where you can buy food to cook in your boathouse or even go to a local restaurant for a bite to eat.

Being right on the river, you can enjoy fishing off your boat house and even explore up and down the river basin in a kayak, whilst enjoying all the local wildlife by going on a walk or even just from your balcony.

You are even just a short drive away from the coast so maybe even spend a day at the beach!

FAQs

Are dogs allowed in the Wild Cat ?

No, dogs are not allowed in the Wild Cat Island. Pets are allowed in the houseboats though. You can stay in Swallow, Amazon or Secret Garden with your dog. We politely ask that all dogs are kept on leads around the yard to protect the wildlife, and that you tidy up after your own dog.

Are the houseboats non smoking?

Yes all the accommodations are non-smoking and non-vaping.

What is the check in/ check out time ?

Check in is between 2:30pm and 5pm. You are welcome to arrive earlier, park up and explore.
If you need to check in later please let us know so that arrangements can be made. There is a late check in fee of £20 per hour ( or part hour) after 5:15pm.
Check out is at 10am

I have never been out on the river, what is it like ?

A lot of fun, and also very relaxing. To see what it can be like take a look at our you tube channel, start with this one about Day-boat hire https://youtu.be/YqI-k3bCuak

How far can you go in a day on a day boat?

The furthest trip is to Oulton Broad. Any further and you risk the tide not being with you and a late return. Late returns will get charged £25 for every part hour late, so we say don’t spoil your day, go as far as Oulton Broad, with a lovey lunch spot.

Does the accommodation come with bed linen and towels?

Yes, when you book you will be asked the number of guests coming and the beds will be made accordingly.

I’d rather not cook on holiday, what options are there?

There are a number of great local restaurants and takeaways in Beccles. You can also get food or a hamper delivered to your accommodation by Beccles Station Cafe.

When can I hire a canoe, kayak, paddle board or pedal boat?

Hire is between the 1st May and 30th September, so you enjoy the river around Beccles and you will want to return again and again. Outside of these months the water is very cold and could cause problems.

Is there Wifi?

Yes Wifi is available free of charge
