What you'll do

Overview

Experience the winter wonderland of Finnish Lapland, home to the greatest natural light show on earth, and also to Santa Claus! In this unique and magical setting enjoy the snowy wonderland by reindeer sleigh and by snowmobile, by day immerse yourself in the pure natural environment outdoors in the snow and spend your evenings gazing in awe at the brilliant colours of the Aurora Borealis.

You’ll be picked up from Kittila airport, and driven straight to your incredible accommodation for the five days, your accommodation, a cabin or a suite that has enough room for spending an evening together under the glass roof providing a view of the star-filled sky and the Northern Lights.

Seeing this phenomenon in person is an experience that simply can’t be matched, as brilliant pinks and greens burst across the inky black sky, brushing the deep fir forests.

You’ll stay in luxury accommodation in a cosy Aurora Cabin, with its glass roof providing an expansive, panoramic view of the sky above you. Enjoy a range of Lappish activities, including taking the kids on a reindeer ride and the magical opportunity to meet Santa face to face in his snowy home.

You’ll also get to explore the area by getting a little further afield on snowmobiles, drinking in the incredible scenery that is so far removed from what we’re used to at home.

Gliding through the impossibly still forest and the crisp, clear Lapland air is exhilarating, and you’ll come across some of the most beautiful natural landscapes anywhere in Finland.

Satisfyingly wearied from your days of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, settle in for some delicious food prepared with only the purest ingredients from Lapland, served by a roaring, warming log fire and in the snug Lappi restaurant.

The entire 4 night program has been crafted with skill and passion so that the whole family can enjoy this unforgettable experience totally, without compromising on comfort as you relax in the highest quality accommodation and watch the beautiful night sky through your panoramic glass roof.

*based on travel late November – mid December

Please note the daily itinerary here is an example – all the activities mentioned will be included in your stay, but the days and times may vary.

Escape to the Wilderness

When you touch down at Kittila airport, we’ll be waiting there to transfer you directly to the incredible Northern Lights Village. Drive through the ethereal pine forest, and arrive at your very own luxury accommodation, nestled within the still, white trees.

Take some time to settle in, unpack, or explore the site, then we’ll welcome you for a dinner in the cosy Lappi restaurant for a meal made with natural, local produce from the surrounding environment.

After dinner, the evening is yours to enjoy. You can choose to relax in front of a roaring log fire or head back to your warm cabin for a night of lying under the ink-black sky, gazing upwards through the clear window to catch a glimpse of the incredible Northern Lights.

Immerse Yourself in Nature

Start your day with a hearty breakfast, and prepare yourself for a day of activities that will allow you to  get in touch with nature and experience true wilderness.

You’ll start the day with a reindeer express ride. Get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures, so central to Sami culture and symbolic of life in the far northern reaches of Finland.

Experience a ride in a sleigh from one of these gentle animals, and hiss through the silent trees and the pure, cold air.

For the kids, they’ll be able to experience some real Lapland magic, as they meet the ‘real’ Santa in his home!

You’ll have free access to the site’s sleds, snowshoes, skis and other equipment for the entire experience, so that you’re free to explore the trails and paths that snake through this untouched, pristine part of the world and discover gentle slopes, hidden clearings and frozen lakes.

Satisfyingly wearied and chilled from a day in the open, you’ll head for another warming, hearty dinner, warm your bones by an open fire, and spend the evening at your leisure, waiting for the spectacular Borealis to burn across the clear night sky.

Snowmobile Safari

This full day will get you further from the Northern Lights village and out into the beautiful snowy wilderness of Lapland.

Embarking on a 2-hour snowmobile safari, you’ll explore pristine fells and silent, snow-covered forest, frozen lakes and rivers, and magnificent hillsides.

Your expert guide will help you get the hang of your snowmobile, then lead you on a stunning adventure around the part of the world that is one of Europe’s last remaining wild places.

Return and enjoy passing time at your leisure, drinking in your surroundings and enjoying great Finnish food.

Chasing the Northern Lights

Wake up on your penultimate morning here, hopefully blown away by the natural spectacle you witnessed last night.

You will have the opportunity to spend this day at your lesuire, exploring the village or going further afield on an organised or self-led activity.

In the evening, you’ll get to experiences the magic of the Northern Lights like never before, as you ride a heated sleigh deep into the Finnish wilderness, to drink in the lights in true isolation – an otherworldly experience.

Location

Northern Lights Village is located deep in the quiet wilderness of the Sirkka region, 16km from the centre of Levi and 32km from Kittila airport.

250km north of the Arctic Circle, the area you’ll be staying in is a vast expanse of pristine pine forest that is home to bears, golden eagles, wolverines, and thousands of reindeer.

Some activities take place in the village, while others are based in Levi. The daily shuttle allows you to get to the centre of Levi with opportunities to go downhill skiing, as well as visit the bars, restaurants, supermarkets and nightlife.

The restaurant, saunas, snowmobile tracks and toboggan areas are all right in the village, along with 40 cosy cabins with electric fires and glass roofs. The cabins are lined by uninhabited fells and forests.

What our travellers are saying...

Fantastic experience. We joined a tour to find Santa in Finland and it was just perfect. The guides (elves!), reindeers, the whole experience was just superb. Obviously our 3 years old daughter was all around the place, but it felt really good for us adults - it spoke to our inner child. Spoiler: we've also found Santa's cabin. Recommended!

László

We went to Lapland - it is a must! Just the most magical, unforgettable experience with brilliant memories (and fantastic photos) to last a lifetime. My children loved it and I can’t wait to return - hopefully one day with their children.
