Overview

Embark on an unforgettable wilderness adventure, a winter wonderland in Northern Lapland. Blissful relaxation, adrenaline-pumping outdoor adventures and the world's greatest natural wonder make this an unforgettable trip with the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

Your adventure begins the moment you touch down in Ivalo airport, where you’ll be picked up and transferred to your beautiful accommodation. Nestled in the snow-covered pine forest by Lake Inari, your accommodation allows uninterrupted views of the dark sky of the polar night.

Take part in thrilling activities, from rushing along snow-covered tracks and frozen fells on a husky sled, to exhilarating snowmobiling escapades across the expansive wilderness. By nightfall, savour the serenity of your lake or forest view accommodation and witness the enchanting Northern Lights gracefully dancing above.

Of course, searching for the northern lights is about being in the right place at the right time. Fortunately, you’ll be in exactly the right place, at the right time of year, accompanied by some of the  best northern lights hunters in the world, maximising your chances of ticking off the ultimate bucket list moment.

Your accommodation is in a room or suite which can accommodate from 1 – 5 people. If you haven’t found the right accommodation to suit your group size we have alternative options in unforgettable Aurora glass roofed igloos and the lovely log cabins and villas for larger groups.

Arrival Day

You will land in Ivalo airport, where you will be met and taken directly to your accommodation, driving through the ethereal pine forest, to arrive at your accommodation, nestled within the still, white forest.

Take some time to settle in, unpack or explore, then you can enjoy a delicious dinner in the restaurant.

You will be staying in one of a choice of accommodations, wilderness hotel room or arctic suite, arctic log cabin, or sky view villa , set in beautiful surroundings . With any luck, you’ll be able to witness the spectacle of the Northern Lights on your very first night in Lapland.

Snowmobiling and Aurora Camp

Today your morning activity is perfect for those who have never tried snowmobiling before. First you will get familiar with the snowmobile, have full safety instructions and a driving lesson. After everyone feels comfortable, we will head out for journey through the beautiful Lappish countryside. Children will be sitting in a sleigh pulled behind the guides snowmobile.

Back to the resort for a generous and well deserved lunch, enjoy a relaxing break – maybe try a Finnish sauna (bookable locally) and take a break before the afternoons Aurora experience!

This activity takes you to the amazing forest surroundings. You will be comfortably seated in a sledge that is pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. This way you can enjoy the northern sky all the way to the camp where there is a hut with an roaring open fire to warm you up on a cold night of Aurora hunting. Pancakes will be prepared on the open fire, and there will be warm drinks. The camp has a minimum amount of light pollution, so it is perfect for viewing the Northern Lights that will hopefully show up in the sky.

Husky Safari

After a hearty breakfast you will set out on a husky safari, swishing through the silent, snow-covered forest on your own private sleigh.

Meet the beautiful, energetic dogs that will take you exploring through the glistening  wilderness, on a safari you are sure never to forget. The dog sled is shared by two people who can take turns driving the sled whilst the other sits back and enjoys the ride and the scenery. Jump on a sled and enjoy the thrill of dashing through the snow, at speed!

The Husky experience will take approximately 3hrs (1.5-2hrs on the sleigh ) which will give you the afternoon at your leisure. Why not rent Snowshoes or Cross Country Ski’s to explore the trails and paths that snake through this untouched, pristine part of the world and discover dramatic fells, hidden clearings and frozen lakes or have a look at additional activities you can add to your booking –

Gentle Snowshoeing

Put on your snowshoes and get ready for a relaxing walk into the wilderness! This tour will allows to head deep into the Arctic nature and discover a bit more of the secrets of Lapland. With your professional guide, you will snowshoe through old forests, along frozen rivers or lakes, or up to a hilltop, looking for wildlife and steps left in the snow. You may have the chance of passing tracks made by wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels, and Arctic hares.

The tour will be adapted to the level of the group so that it is suitable for everyone, from the very beginners to the good hikers. As you will explore the white scenery, you will certainly feel the peaceful harmony of Lapland. Your guide will always keep an eye out for wildlife and flora, and will teach you more about nature and your surroundings.

Farewell

Your final morning in the Lapland. Wake up at a leisurely time  (check-out isn’t until 11am), and enjoy a final breakfast by the log fire as you reflect on the wonderful adventure you’ve had here.

We’ll transfer you back to the airport, and look forward to seeing you again!

Arctic Nature Cabin

With a panoramic view over the Arctic Lake, Nellim's Arctic Nature Cabin offers a magical way to experience Lapland. The Arctic Nature Cabin is equipped with a double bed, and bathroom with shower. The sauna is in a separate log building next door. The panorama window allows you to enjoy the Arctic Nature from the comfort of your bed.

Location

You will fly into Ivalo airport which is well connected from the UK by Finnair.

The transfer time from Ivalo Airport is approximately a 45 minute drive.

Nellim is a remote spot close to the shores of Lake Inari and surrounded by incredible wilderness, providing perfectly dark skies, ideal for Aurora viewing.

The resort offers wide range of accommodation options including rooms, suites, log cabins, villas and unforgettable Aurora glass roofed igloos which are all within a short walk of the main reception and restaurant building.

When can I go?

The winter season starts late November and finishes at the end of March

What ages do the child prices apply to?

Child pricing applies to ages 4-14 years. Ages of 15+ will be classed as an adult.

I have an infant, can they participate in the activities?

Minimum age for children on the activities is 3 years old. Unfortunately 2 years old or younger cannot take part. Our host can arrange to split the group for activities to assist with childcare, so everyone gets the opportunity to experience each activity.

Is thermal clothing provided for guests?

Thermal overalls, boots and gloves are included.

When will I do all of my activities?

Upon check in at your resort you will be given your full schedule of exciting activities.

Will I be woken up when the Aurora Borealis are visible?

You can hire a Aurora alarm for the duration of your stay, at a small charge

Are there any additional facilities available on-site at the resort?

Yes, they offer a public Sauna, with separate times for men and women (pay locally). The Resort has an on-site restaurant, bar and reception

Is there Internet available at the resort?

Yes! WiFi is a complimentary service of the resort. The Wi-Fi works in lobby and restaurant area.
