What you'll do

Overview

Enjoy a fun filled break to Lapland. Get off the beaten track and experience what the Finnish wonderland has to offer, with a husky safari, reindeer farm visit, a meeting with Santa Claus and an exciting snowmobile safari!

Your trip will start with a transfer from Rovaniemi airport to your accommodation at Santa’s Hotel Aurora in Luosto. You will have the chance to relax before starting the adventure the next day.

First of all you will get kitted out with warm overalls and boots to keep you cosy during your activities in the arctic snow. During your stay you will visit a local reindeer farm, where you will be guided around by the herders and enjoy a snack and warm drink, you’ll take a magical reindeer sleigh ride through the forest where you will come upon Santa Claus’s hut and you will go in to meet the man himself!  Another fun filled day you will visit a Husky farm and learn all about the use of huskies in Finland and maybe even meet some puppies!  You will then set off on a safari in a sledge pulled by the huskies through the snow covered landscape.

On the final day of your Christmas Holiday in Lapland, enjoy the chance to explore the wintery forests and frozen lakes by snowmobile for a real adrenaline rush!

Arrival

You will be greeted by a driver and transferred from Rovaniemi airport to your hotel.

Take time to relax, take a walk into th village and get your bearings, enjoy a delicious dinner and maybe  take a look for the Northern Lights, before your adventure really begins tomorrow.

 

 

Reindeer Safari and visit to Santa Claus

Start the day off with a breakfast, and get ready to meet Santa himself*. A wonderful Christmas experience with only those closest to you.

You will be picked up form you accommodation for your visit to a nearby reindeer farm where you get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures.

Enjoy lunch in a traditional Finnish Hut.

Join your guided tour of the reindeer farm, then snuggle down in the sleigh and be pulled by these gentle animals at a sedate pace, swish through the silent trees and the pure, cold air on your way to Santa Claus’ forest hut, where the whole family will get the chance to meet Santa himself. You will be able to ask him questions, learn about life in Finland and all the traditions associated with Christmas festivities. You can show him your Christmas list for a moment none of the family will forget.

After your day of adventure, you will be taken back to your hotel where you will have some time to relax before dinner.

Husky Farm and Safari

Today, you will be visiting a husky farm where you will learn all about huskies and just how important they are to the Finnish people. You will start the day with breakfast again before travelling to the husky farm.

One of the husky mushers will guide you around the farm, where you will learn all about huskies and how to use them to pull a sledge as well as hearing some stories about the dogs and their different personalities! You will embark on a 5km husky ride where you can use your mushing skills. These beautiful, energetic dogs will take you on a tour of the incredible landscape and you’ll get to spend time interacting with these affectionate animals after the ride.

You will then return to the hotel  for dinner and have some time to relax by the fire or perhaps take a sauna or a stroll around the village searching the night sky for the Northern Lights.

 

Snow mobile adventure

After a buffet breakfast at the hotel you will be embarking on an exciting 2 hour snowmobile ride around the snow covered forests and frozen lakes of Luosto.

Your expert guide will help you get the hang of your snowmobile, then lead you on a stunning adventure around the part of the world that is one of Europe’s last remaining wild places.

You will then head back to the hotel for an afternoon of relaxation.

Then, you’ll head for another warming, hearty dinner, warm up by an open fire, and spend the evening at your leisure, waiting for the spectacular Borealis to burn across the clear night sky.

 

Snowmobile Ride and Departure

After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred back to Rovaniemi Airport for your flight home.

The Premium Glass roofed igloos, have a heated glass roof, so you have unobstructed views of the spectacular night sky and the jaw-dropping Northern Lights, all from the comfort of your bed. The igloos have en suite shower rooms and the double bed is beneath the glass roof, there is a sofa bed for a third adult or child. All premium igloos are equipped with a minibar, kettle, tv, air-conditioning, heated glass ceiling, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries.

Recently renovated the standard rooms have a double or twin beds and can also accommodate one extra bed. There is a fireplace in the corner of the room and a private sauna. They have minibar, kettle, hairdryer and TV.

Location

Your hotel is located in Luosto a 90 minute drive  from Rovaniemi Airport, in Pyhä-Luosto National Park. Luosto is a small ski resort with a selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

Pyhä-Luosto National Park is an amazing backdrop for the boutique style hotel and glass igloo accommodation of Santa’s Hotel Aurora, ideally located close to the centre of the resort, just 250 m from the ski lifts and close to cross country tracks, with a toboggan run accessible immediately behind it.

How long is the transfer from Rovaniemi airport?

The journey will take around 90 minutes

Is warm outer wear included?

Yes, you will collect warm overalls and boots on arrival and return them before you leave.

Outfits for infants can be provided.

Are there any shops, restaurants within walking distance of the hotel?

Yes, warm overalls and boots are provided. You can choose to provide clothing and boot sizes prior to travel and they will be at the hotel on arrival. Alternatively, you will receive them at the start of your first activity. These will then be with you for the duration of your stay and returned at checkout to the hotel.

What are the child ages?

Child ages are 4-12.

Please notify us if you are bringing an infant 3 years old and under. They're welcome free of charge, but the host must be notified.

Are all the activities suitable for children?

Husky safari : one adult will drive the sledge - this adult must be aged 18 years old and over. Unfortunately, due to safety reasons, children under 4 years old cannot take part in the husky safari.

Our host can arrange to split the group for activities to assist with childcare, so everyone gets the opportunity to experience each activity.

Snowmobile : children have to be a minimum of 4 years old to participate and children under 140cm will sit behind a sledge pulled by snowmobile.

To make your child's Christmas experience more magical please provide their letter to Santa in advance by emailing us a copy to: support@nitgb.com or provide a copy to the hotel reception on arrival.

Do I need a driving license and insurance to drive the Snowmobiles?

​Please note that the driver of the snowmobile must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s licence with him/her when taking part in the snowmobile safari.

Insurance is excluded from the experience.

Insurance cover maybe required and must be paid on the day of the experience.

Will there be snow?

In November/early December there’s a chance that the snow fall may be light or even late. There will usually be a thick layer of snow throughout late December, January and February, and still some remaining come March. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee nor predict the snow fall.
