Join a fun small group adventure to see the puffins in their natural environment. The trip out to the islands where the Puffin colonies nest is on a small comfortable boat, and you will have a unique chance to see the beautiful Puffins in their home on the rugged cliffs.
An expert guide will meet you on board one of the comfortable boats, docked at the floating pier.
Iceland is home to over half of the worlds Atlantic puffin population and the Summer months between May and September are the best time to see them. Depending on the tides and conditions on the islands the captain will take you to either Engey, Akurey or Lundey, one of three islands well known for their plentiful birdlife. We cannot go on the islands, but try and get as close as possible without disturbing the nesting birds. In addition to puffins you have the opportunity to view other birds such as eider ducks, arctic terns, guillemots and cormorants.
The island’s shores are rocky but our captains know the best spots to get close to the puffins without disturbing any natural behaviour. If the weather is right we might even turn off the engines so that you can enjoy some quiet time listening to the birds calling. During the tour the crew will tell you interesting facts and tales about the puffins and the surroundings. As the birds are small in size, we recommend bringing a good zoom lens for ‘close up’ photography or binoculars. We also have raincoats and binoculars available to borrow on board.
