What you'll do

Enjoy a beautiful hike through Iceland's Steam Valley, admiring the stunning landscape. Along the way you will see boiling mud pools and steaming hot springs, bright blue gems in the verdant green valley, and then take a swim in the wonderfully warm geothermal river to relax before your return back to Reykjavík.

You will be picked up from your accommodation at 09.00 for your adventure to begin. You will be driven from Reykjavík to Hveragerði, around a 40 minute drive, where the Reykjadalur Steam Valley is found.

From there, you will begin your hike through the colourful geothermal area, led by your local guide, reaching the wonderfully warm river after around an hour’s walk.

Along the trail you will see boiling mud pools and steaming turquoise hot springs as the trail leads you beside a stunning waterfall and through the lush meadows, at some points you may be enveloped by steam from the geothermal springs in this magical valley.

When you arrive at the river there will be plenty of time for a wonderfully warm relaxing soak, and then continue on a moderate hike with a good rest at the top, before your walk back down once again through the stunning landscape.

As part of an activity holiday in Iceland, this off the beaten track hike is one not to be missed. It allows you to immerse yourself in Iceland’s nature, allowing  you to appreciate its unique beauty.
