Explore the less well known paths of Catania and enjoy a relaxing guided walk to sample some of the best night street food of Sicily; hidden underground lava tunnels, colourful graffiti, and unique symbols of Catania City. A wonderful experience for history buffs and foodies alike.
The night tour begins from Piazza Duomo and offers a vastly different side to Catania. After a unique introduction to the symbols of the city of Catania, the walk ventures into a secret underground lava tunnel created by one of the many eruptions of mount Etna.
Enjoy a taste of the delicious street food in the area of Piazza Mazzini, perhaps arancini, a popular Italian ‘aperitivo’ – delicious balls of flavoured rice coated with bread crumbs and deep fried – a staple of Sicilian cuisine! before exploring the Civita district. Admire the unique and colourful street art and sample the most traditional Catanese night food: tender spicy roast horse meat and cipollata (bacon and spring onion).
The area of Civita is not on the tourist path, and it is the best area downtown to truly understand real life in Catania. Your local guide will share stories of their daily city life along with the history and legend of this colourful city. On our way to the last food stop you will view the amazing graffiti of internationally renowned street artists decorating the facades of buildings on the Largo XVII Agosto. The tour ends in the elegant square of the opera house Teatro Massimo where foodies will enjoy the best granita in Catania with a fluffy Sicilian brioche.
This tour operates from April – October
