Accommodation:

The Barefoot Eco Hotel operates in the same way as a small island resort. However, as opposed to being on a private island, as resorts are, it is situated on part of a local inhabited island allowing you access to explore day to day life in the Maldives.

The hotel is located on the local island of Hanimaadhoo in the preserved deep North of Maldives and provides the opportunity to experience untouched nature and the genuine and natural Maldives.  The island is a quiet fishing and agricultural village with lots of tree-shade and swings.

The Barefoot Eco Hotel provides a gateway for a Maldives adventure where you can experience true Maldivian hospitality.

Guests will enjoy a welcome drink and refreshing towels upon arrival. There are also free daily activities such as volleyball, snorkelling by dhoni with the marine biologist on the house reef, bikes for adults and children, seawater swimming-pool, fully equipped gym, canoes, library, board games, telescope, biology lectures, test of underwater respiration. All to enjoy during your free time!

Food:

The Barefoot Restaurant takes pride in sourcing the best ingredients available. Fish arrives freshly caught and is served to the guests full of flavour. The Restaurant is fully committed to supporting local suppliers and vegetarian options are always available on the buffet, whilst a request to the chef will ensure a favourite meal is served!

Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main sea view restaurant. For private and romantic dinners, seafood menus may be reserved at an extra charge.

The “juice bar” next to the main restaurant is a gathering place to sip soft drinks, fresh juices and mock-tails.  As Barefoot is located on a local island where alcohol is not available, a floating bar located in the hotel lagoon offers alcoholic drinks and can be reached by complimentary speedboat from 17:00 each evening making your evenings even more special.

Dinner is served between 20:00 – 21:00

*From price based on travel for 2 people in 2024 in a seaside room. For larger groups or solo travellers please enquire directly to hello@nitgb.com

What facilities are there?

Conservation Centre

The establishment of a Conservation Centre has enabled development of a series of responsible activities for guests (such as snorkelling, dolphin watch, turtle identification and more). This way, during the activities a double goal can be pursued: “fun” for the guests and environmental monitoring at the same time.

During excursions at sea, marine biologists can carry out several projects of environmental monitoring in order to collect data on the ecosystem and monitor the effect of tourism. Open lab sessions provide the chance to discover marine research efforts and get involved with the marine biologists in their scientific work.

Boutique

There is a well-stocked and original boutique (clothing, souvenirs, and personal care products). Two highly skilled tailors can do ‘made to measure’ clothes of guests’ choice with typical material in a short time. The boutique always offers an excellent selection from the latest collection and local made hand crafts. Purchase a perfect gift or memorabilia for your stay.

Spa

Further your relaxation at the natural health retreat offering Ayurvedic, holistic treatments and classic massages services. Detox programs are research-based and combine medical science with holistic therapies.

Dive Centre

There are 20-30 dive spots at a boat distance of 20-40 minutes; all of them can be reached by traditional dhoni and/or speed boat. Manta and dolphin dives are offered according to the season.  The area offers drift dives, cave diving and even the Maadhoo wreck. Wall dives are among some of the best you will find in the whole of the Maldives scuba diving region and the coral reefs shine in the sunny weather and clear waters that make for great visibility of up to 30m. The diving centre guarantees the highest level of quality and professionalism.  They offer complete sets of rental equipment including BCD, masks, snorkels, fins, wetsuits, dive computers and underwater digital cameras as well as customized services, suitable for both adults and children. All level courses are available including “PADI ENRICHED AIR DIVER”. Free try dive.

Do I need to be good swimmer?

It is not necessary to know how to swim in order to snorkel, but you do need to be comfortable in the water. We provide buoyancy aids for all non-swimmers and our guides will initially take you to a shallow lagoon where you can put your feet down onto the sand in order to allow you to learn to float with the aid of the buoyancy aid before then adding a snorkel and mask. Our guide will provide instruction and coaching on how to snorkel and utilize the equipment. Our guide will assess your confidence and ability in the water to ensure it is safe to proceed to a coral reef area for your first snorkel encounter.

Please be sure to advise us at the time of booking if you are a non-swimmer

What sea wildlife could I see?

It is possible to encounter dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, mooray eels, giant pelagic fish, small tropical fish, whale shark and reef sharks (don't worry they are safe to swim with)

What are the child ages?

Child ages are 2-11 years old.
