Embark on a captivating five-day Arctic odyssey that promises to immerse you in the untouched beauty of Tromsø and Sommarøy.

On this Arctic adventure of a lifetime you will stay for two nights in the pretty  arctic town of Tromso, take a sustainable whale watching cruise, gliding through the pristine Arctic waters in near silence aboard a state-of-the-art hybrid-electric ship on a unique wildlife adventure, get up close to majestic whales without disturbing their natural habitat, offering an intimate connection with these magnificent creatures.

You will visit a local husky farm and experience the thrill of a lifetime as you are whisked away on a sled ride through the snow-covered wilderness. This quintessential Arctic adventure provides both excitement and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning natural landscape of the region.

Take a drive with an expert to search for the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis, Earth’s most magnificent light show. Tromsø’s clear, dark skies provide a perfect backdrop for viewing this dazzling natural phenomenon, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

During your trip you will stay for two nights in Tromso and one night on the beautiful island of  Sommarøy, a charming fishing village and a tranquil haven perfect for relaxation.  Enjoy a wonderful outdoor hot tub, take a walk on the snow-covered beach and soak up the stunning Arctic landscape.

Arrival Day

Your adventure starts when you land in Tromsø airport, where you will be met and taken directly to your accommodation in the city centre for the duration of your holiday.

Take some time to settle in, unpack or explore the city.  You can enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the many fine restaurants there are to choose from.

Whale Watching

This morning you will leave early for an unforgettable Silent Whale Watching experience aboard a state-of-the-art hybrid-electric ship. This eco-friendly vessel allows for a quiet and unobtrusive journey, ensuring a minimal impact on the natural environment and a peaceful atmosphere for observing the majestic whales. As you glide through the Arctic waters, you’ll have the chance to witness these magnificent creatures up close, all while enjoying the comfort and modern amenities of the ship.

Expert guides will be on hand to provide fascinating insights into the behaviour and habitat of the whales, enhancing your understanding and appreciation of these incredible marine mammals. This trip is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers seeking a serene and responsible way to experience the beauty of Tromsø’s marine life. The hybrid-electric ship ensures a smooth and silent voyage, making this a truly unique and memorable adventure.

Whales habitually frequent this area and so the chance of seeing them is good, though it cannot be guaranteed.

Seasonal replacement:  Whale watching season is from Nov-Jan. For travel in Jan and Feb the experience will be switched for an Aurora Cruise Dinner

 

Husky Adventure and Northern Light Chase

After a hearty breakfast today you will set out on a 4-hour  husky sledding adventure just outside Tromsø, where you will swish through the silent, snow-covered forest on your own private sleigh.

Meet these beautiful, energetic dogs that will take you exploring through the glistening wilderness, on a safari you are sure never to forget.

This experience is designed to be accessible to everyone, with a sled ride that is comfortable and offers plenty of opportunities for photography. The husky farm is renowned for its exceptional care of their dogs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for you and the dogs.

In the early evening you will embark on a quest to witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights! Your guide will drive you through the stunning landscapes, searching for the perfect spot to observe the celestial display. The tour duration varies with conditions, but you’ll be back by 2:00 am at the latest. Along the way you will enjoy hot drinks and snacks to keep you warm and energized. This is a perfect opportunity to witness one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena in the company of experts.

The Northern Lights are regularly evident in this area during the winter months, but seeing them will depend on clear skies and the right weather conditions so it cannot be guaranteed.

Relaxation in Sommarøy

Today you will check out of your city centre hotel and be transferred to the island of Sommarøy on a scenic journey through Norway’s Arctic landscape.  The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours and the route allows for stops to admire the fjords and islands dotting the coastline, with great opportunities for photos and breaks to stretch your legs.

Sommarøy is a tranquil Arctic wonderland, offering a unique experience in the arctic wilderness and as night falls you will have a great chance to see the captivating Northern Lights dancing across the dark skies. Your stay at Sommarøy includes a relaxing 2hr private hot tub experience. This jacuzzi provides breath-taking views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Arctic Ocean and if you’re lucky the Northern Lights!

For those still seeking adventure the crisp air and snow-covered landscape are perfect for winter activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and kayaking. Please enquire about the optional activities available.

Farewell

Today is your final morning in Norway. Wake up at a leisurely time and enjoy a final breakfast as you reflect on the wonderful adventure you’ve had.

You’ll be transferred back to the airport in Tromso for your flight home.

Tromsø is a vibrant city located in the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. Known for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and unique Arctic experiences it is a popular destination for travellers seeking adventure and a deep connection with nature.

Tromsø Airport, Langnes (TOS) is your arrival and departure airport for this experience. There are regular flights to and from Luton with Wizz Air , Gatwick with Easyjet and Heathrow with British Airways in the Winter months. Tromso town is just a short  15 min drive away.

FAQs

When can I travel on this break?

The package dates on the experience coincide with Whale watching season and conditions for dog sledding; therefore dates run from 15th Nov to 31st January. When travelling after 31st January the package will include Aurora Dinner Cruise instead of Whale watching trip.

What clothes should I pack?

The temperatures in Tromsø are relatively mild in winter, considering the latitude, however on the coldest nights of the year, the temperature can drop to -14 °C. Please bring warm clothes, boots, gloves, hat and scarf.

In particular, during the Whale watching experience you will sail in arctic waters, and it will feel incredibly cold when you stand outside.

Am I guaranteed to see Whales?

Whales are wild animals and sadly we can't guarantee sightings. Whilst the crew on the boat will try their best to succeed, it is entirely up to nature if you see whales on a particular day or not. They see whales on most days, however, seeing whales can be anything from 1 orca in the distance to a pack of humpback whales in front of the boat. They use the boat and equipment to improve your chances and the guides and captain are constantly on the lookout for whales.
