You will begin in the enchanting capital of Oslo, where you’ll be whisked from the airport to a cosy stay at Oslo Guldsmeden. Then your adventure kicks off with the iconic Bergen Line Train and the breath-taking Flåm Railway, leading you through dramatic mountain scenery to the quaint village of Flåm and onwards by ferry to the picturesque city of Bergen.

Immerse yourself in Bergen’s rich history with a private guided walk before setting off to the serene Værlandet where the tranquillity washes over you as you island hop by bike, through the stunning landscape. Journey along the spectacular Gaularfjellet Scenic Route to Skjolden, where thrilling glacier hikes and RIB boat excursions await.

Your travels take you next to cruise the world-renowned Geirangerfjord, considered the jewel in Norway’s crown of fjords, with 800m high cliffs and cascading waterfalls. You will continue to the art nouveau town of Ålesund, and then drive along the legendary Atlantic Ocean Road to Kristiansund. Explore the historic charm of Trondheim with a walking tour, revealing its medieval roots and vibrant culture, before a scenic train ride on the Dovre Railway brings you back to Oslo

Arrival Day

Upon arrival at Oslo Airport, enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city. Depending on your arrival time,  you can take some time to explore Oslo’s vibrant city centre. Visit landmarks like the Royal Palace, the Oslo Opera House, or stroll along the waterfront at Aker Brygge.

Oslo to Bergen by Train and Ferry

This morning you will be transferred to the train station to embark on one of the world’s most scenic train journeys, the Bergen Line, from Oslo to Myrdal.

On arrival in Myrdal, you will transfer to the Flåm Railway and enjoy the picturesque journey down to the fjord village of Flåm.

A journey on the Bergen Line promises one of the most breath-taking scenic experiences in all of Europe. This iconic railway route traverses the rugged terrain of the Hardangervidda National Park, leading travellers onto the vast expanse of the Hardangervidda plateau. Europe’s largest high mountain plateau, this landscape captivates with its sheer beauty and untamed wilderness. As the train winds its way through this pristine wilderness, passengers are treated to panoramic views of dramatic mountains, cascading waterfalls, and expansive valleys.

Then, enjoy a ferry ride through the stunning fjords from Flåm to Bergen, taking in the majestic landscapes.

Arriving in Bergen in the evening, settle into your accommodation and prepare to explore this charming city nestled among the mountains and fjords of western Norway.

Exploring Bergen

Spend the morning on a captivating 3-hour private city walk with a local guide, exploring Bergen’s highlights and learning about its rich history.

Discover the Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the bustling Fish Market. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure, perhaps taking the funicular to Mount Fløyen for panoramic views of the city.

Bergen to Værlandet by car and ferry

Today you will collect your hire car and  journey from Bergen to Værlandet by car, heading north.

You will continue along this route for approximately 150-160km until you reach the vicinity of Askvoll. Once you’re in Askvoll you will  board the ferry bound for Værlandet.

Check the ferry timetable before you set off so that you can plan your journey – ferries run several times a day.

The ferry journey is around an hour, offering scenic views of the Norwegian coast along the way. On arrival at Værlandet, you’ll find yourself immersed in the tranquil beauty of this island destination, ready to explore its coastal landscapes, hiking trails, and charming atmosphere.

This journey typically takes approximately 4.5 hours.

Island Hopping by bike

Today you will embark on an exciting island-hopping adventure by bike along the popular cycle route between Værlandet and Bulandet.

This scenic route takes you through picturesque coastal landscapes, charming fishing villages, and breathtaking seascapes as you pedal your way between the two islands.

Experience the tranquillity of island life, stopping to admire the views, explore hidden coves, and perhaps even enjoy a picnic lunch by the sea. With each pedal stroke, you’ll discover the unique charm and natural beauty of these remote Norwegian islands, a truly unforgettable cycling adventure amidst the stunning scenery of the Norwegian coast.

Drive from Værlandet to Skjolden via the Gaularfjellet Scenic Route

Today you will check out and embark on the return journey from Værlandet to Skjolden, bid adieu to the island’s serene charm and take the ferry back to Askvoll, then drive through the scenic coastal landscape, exploring the Gaularfjellet Scenic Route, taking in diverse landscapes from dramatic high mountains to lush valleys and serene lakes

Pause at viewpoints on the way to savour the panoramic vistas before concluding your memorable journey in Skjolden, carrying with you the tranquil memories of Værlandet’s coastal bliss.

The journey typically takes approximately 5 hours.

Glacier Hike & RIB Excursion

Today you will embark on an exhilarating glacier hike experience in Skjolden, spanning a total duration of 7 hours. This adventure includes a thrilling RIB boat ride, preparation with necessary equipment, the hike itself, exploration of the glacier, and the return journey. Led by an expert guide, you will traverse the icy terrain, surrounded by the stunning glacial landscape and towering peaks, as you immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. With expert guidance and equipment provided, this glacier hike promises an unforgettable outdoor adventure in the heart of Norway’s wilderness.

Drive to Geiranger

Today you will leave Skjolden and head eastward by car immersing yourself in the breath-taking beauty of lush valleys and towering mountains. As you wind through the scenic countryside, take in the awe-inspiring views that unfold along the route. You’ll pass through picturesque towns, cross fjords via bridges, and wind your way through valleys and mountain passes.

Take rest stops along the way to stretch your legs, grab a snack, and enjoy the breath-taking scenery.

Aim to arrive in Geiranger by early evening to allow time to settle into your accommodation and perhaps enjoy a meal while taking in the views of the iconic Geirangerfjord.

The journey is approximately 5.5 hours

Scenic Fjord Cruise

Today, embark on a scenic fjord cruise in Geiranger. Sail through the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, known for its breathtaking waterfalls and lush green cliffs. Capture the beauty of the Seven Sisters Waterfall and the Suitor.

Geiranger to Ålesund

Today you will drive from Geiranger to Ålesund and experience some of Norway’s most scenic landscapes and charming coastal towns. The journey will take approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours, covering a distance of around 120 to 150 kilometers.

You will begin your journey by driving from Geiranger to Hellesylt, where you’ll catch a ferry across the stunning Geirangerfjord to Linge. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the fjord and surrounding mountains, a memorable start to your journey.

From Linge, continue your drive towards Ålesund, following scenic coastal roads and crossing over bridges and through tunnels. Along the way, you’ll pass through picturesque villages, rugged coastlines, and lush countryside, offering plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the scenery.

Upon arriving in Ålesund, take some time to explore this charming coastal city known for its Art Nouveau architecture, vibrant cultural scene, and stunning coastal views.

Ålesund to Kristiansund via The Atlantic Ocean Road

Today, you will continue up the coast to your next hotel stop in Kristiansund. Along the route we would recommend a stop at Molde for lunch, here you can find many authentic eateries serving locally sourced  produce and delicious Norwegian cuisine. Whether indulging in fresh seafood or savouring reindeer meat, there’s plenty to tantalize the taste buds.

From there your scenic journey continues to your next hotel via the iconic Atlantic Road National Scenic Route, a unique stretch of road which takes you right out to the ocean’s edge. It is one of the World’s most beautiful drives, connecting Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by bridges and causeways

Take your time to stop at viewpoints, admire the rugged coastal landscapes, and perhaps even indulge in local seafood delicacies at one of the roadside cafes.

With its breathtaking scenery and unforgettable driving experience, the Atlantic Road National Scenic Route is an unforgettable part of your journey.

The journey takes approximately 3.5 hours, covering a distance of around 170 km

Kristiansund to Trondheim

Today you will take the final drive of your trip from Kristiansund to Trondheim, tracing the scenic highway along the Norwegian coast. Enjoy the views of the fjords and islands as you make your way towards Trondheim’s historic city centre.

The journey takes approximately 3.5 hours, covering a distance of around 200 kilometres.

Take the opportunity whilst in Trondheim to drop off your car hire as this will no longer be required.

 

Exploring Trondheim

Today you will start your day with a captivating 2-hour walking tour in Trondheim. You will visit the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s most important Gothic monument, built over St. Olav’s burial site, and cross the iconic Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro), with its distinctive red gates, offering beautiful views of the Nidelva River and historic wooden buildings.

Your guide will lead you through Bakklandet, a charming neighbourhood with colourful wooden houses, cobblestone streets, and cosy cafes, and you can take a break in one of the cafes to enjoy a coffee and pastry while soaking in the local atmosphere.

After the walking tour, explore Trondheim at your leisure. Perhaps visit the Trondheim Science Centre for interactive exhibits, or the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum to see traditional Norwegian buildings and artifacts. Music lovers can head to Rockheim, Norway’s national museum of popular music, for a journey through the country’s rock and pop history.

Train to Oslo via the Dovre Railway

Today, you will take on the scenic journey from Trondheim to Oslo on the Dovre Railway, renowned for its stunning landscapes. The seven-hour trip offers breathtaking views from lush farmlands and verdant valleys to the dramatic Dovre Mountains, home to wild musk oxen and reindeer.

As the train ascends through the rugged terrain of Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, capture the stark, rocky highlands and snow-dusted peaks. The route then descends through the picturesque valley of Gudbrandsdalslågen River and passes charming villages like Lillehammer, home of the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Arriving in Oslo, spend the evening at your leisure. Perhaps explore the Vigeland Sculpture Park or the Munch Museum, home to Edvard Munch’s iconic “The Scream.” Take time to reflect on your journey, from serene countryside to majestic mountains, making the Dovre Railway an unforgettable experience.
