What you'll do

Overview

The best of Hội An in three days. Soak up the rays on the white-sand beaches of the coast, discover the winding, beautiful lanes and alleys of the city, and get out into the countryside on an eco-tour that immerses you in the rural culture that most tourists don't experience.

Hội An is a city of incredible beauty, both in the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is its centre, on the beautiful white-sand beaches that line the coast, and in the lush green countryside that surrounds it.

You’ll arrive in Hội An and be escorted directly to your accommodation for the two nights, where you’ll have time to relax before deciding whether you want to orientate yourself in the complex of Chinese shophouses, covered Japanese bridges, Vietnamese tube houses and peeling French colonial grandeur.

Once a major trading port, the history of Hội An seeps through the winding alleys and the hidden staircases that lead to steaming street food markets or one of the many world-renowned tailors. Spend your day exploring this maze, maybe getting a fresh new suit cut and going for a boat ride on the lantern-lit river, or simply take advantage of the stunning Ao Bang beach for some downtime.

You’ll visit Tra Que village and get under the skin of Vietnamese culture, by getting up close and personal with local communities on an eco-tour that gets you off the beaten track for a really authentic experience.

Visit the bamboo handicraft area, explore the water coconut forest on traditional Vietnamese bamboo basket boats, learn to paddle them after lessons from the local people and watch the professionals in action in a bamboo basket boat performance.

There’s even chance to take part in a bamboo boat race, but if you can’t find the energy for that, you can just relax and catch crabs as the river floats lazily by. Try Hội An’s iconic Cao Lau, and come away knowing you’ve seen a side to Hội An that is missed by most, and had a proper, local experience.

Arrive in Beautiful Hội An

Once you arrive in Hội An, you’ll be transferred directly to your accommodation where you can take a little time to relax and refresh, before heading out on an orientation walk to get used to your surroundings.

Explore shadowy, incense-filled pagodas, ornate Chinese shophouses and the graceful decay of French colonial architecture, whilst popping into the huge variety of shops supplied by local artisans in paintings, woodwork and ceramics.

The city is famous for its tailors, so this could even be an opportunity for you to get some new threads cut from the centre of Hội An! Otherwise, relax on Ao Bang beach, and soak up the deliciously laid back atmosphere of the riverside evening.

Meals: None

An Eco Adventure by Bike and Boat

After breakfast, you’ll embark on an eco-tour with your local guide to the village of Tra Que. Cycle to the village through the lush, green rice fields as water buffalos lumber past, spurred on by local farmers.

Learn about the main craft in the area, and watch as skilled bamboo weavers create stunning ornaments from seemingly nothing. Then, board a bamboo basket boat, and cruise through the water coconut forest thanks to this piece of traditional engineering.

Get expert lessons from the locals on how to paddle your own boat, then sit back and see how the pros do it during a bamboo basket boat performance from your teachers.

If you’re feeling energetic, there is chance to take part in a bamboo boat race, and if you’re not, while away the time catching crabs as dragonflies flit over the perfumed water.

Return to Hội An and spend the afternoon relaxing, exploring the town or the beach and trying the legendary local cuisine. Hội An is a culinary hub even in a country such as Vietnam, and the local dish ‘Cao Lau’ is an absolute must.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch

Farewell to Hội An

After breakfast, you can either be picked up by your driver and taken to Da Nang International Airport, or your guide can help you book onward travel  elsewhere in Vietnam.

La Siesta Hoi An Resort (or similar)

The surrounding neighbors are green rice fields rustling and whispering in the breeze, ribbons of winding village lanes to the Thu Bon River, while right next door is the ancient neighborhood communal house, dedicated to the 15th century Thanh Ha pottery village founders – few resorts can boast direct access to ‘their very own temple’.

Resting in natural tropical gardens the resort has a freshwater pool, a saltwater pool plus an infinity pool ‘merging’ with the rice fields. Wander the garden paths and discover the charming ‘La Spa’ offering a wide menu from Himalayan salt stones to four-hands massage.

Food lovers can savor the best of Hoi An’s cuisine from traditional Vietnamese fare at Asian influenced ‘Red Bean’ restaurant, to classic European and international dishes at ‘The Temple Restaurant & Lounge’.
